Today I am going to speak to you guys all about how I put my outfits together. I wish that I was a laid-back person that just got dressed in a morning without a second thought. The truth is that I plan and write down every single outfit combination that I put on my back. I do this for a number of reasons. The first is that I have found that it helps me when I am in a hurry. I also no longer just wear the same things over and over again. Plus, I know that I am getting my moneys worth out of every single item by doing this. So, I thought that for today’s post, I would sit you down and tell you though my decision process. It is only simple, yet I have found that it is highly effective!
Map out your week and your plans.
The first thing that I do when planning my outfits is looking at my week. Most of the week I am just working in the office, maybe with drinks in an evening. Every now and again I have some big plans or meetings that I want to feel amazing for. Once I see some of the big occasions in my week, I can begin to get an idea of the kind of vibe that I want to go for. Normally, my looks are very business chic, but I like to dress them up with fancy heels and a bag. I actually then record my outfits on a spreadsheet which is broken down into the days of the week. It helps me stay on track and that way I can prep my outfits the evening before so that I can jus throw them on in a morning.
Look at the weather.
Something that is incredibly important when planning outfits is looking at the weather. Especially living here in the UK, the weather can change in an instant. You guys may remember back in April, it was 20 degrees one day and then literally snowing the next. So, when I am making my plans, I always try to look at the forecast. Once I left my house in a pair of crop trousers and my suede Gucci Loafers only for there to be a horrendous downpour. That is a mistake I will only make once. I ended up leaving work, mid downpour, in a pair of gym trainers that one of my colleagues owned.
What have I not worn recently?
I have shared here on my blog before that I have an app where I log everything in my closet. Each day, I then log onto the app and you mark the items that you have worn that day. The app then calculates which are the key items in your closet, what has been worn the most, the price per wear and the items that have not been worn. It just helps to see what has been worn and what has been neglected. I love this because it helps me get even wear out of all my clothes. I look specifically for the items that I have not worn in a while and I make a conscious effort to try and put them into some of my upcoming outfits. It works really well for me and I adore how much it has helped me.
Think about how I am feeling.
Another thing that I really think about is how I am actually feeling. Sometimes I want to wear a banging outfit, but my body says otherwise. We all go through the motions and I am sure you know what I mean. It may be the lovely monthly bloating that we all go through. We may be teetering on the edge of another dress size. Whatever it may be, I just think about how I feel. Neither do I think other people want to see me looking like that. I think a big part of how you look comes down to confidence. I want to ensure that I look my best and that comes all the way back around to my emotions. Sometimes the baggy trousers just need to come out!
