How I Organise My Closet

Today I am going to speak to you guys all about how I store and organise my closet. As I am sure it is obvious from reading my blog, I love fashion. That means that I have more clothes than I can possibly store in my house. Over the years I have had to come up with some creative ways of storing everything. Not only do I need to be able to find things, but it also needs to be super organised. When I am rushing around before work in a morning, I need to be able to find something quickly and instantly. So, I thought that I would share some of my tips and tricks. Because I know that some of you guys will be in the same predicament as me!

Keep everything logged on my app.

One of the most important things that I do with my clothing is keep everything logged in my app. On my iPhone I have an app called ‘Stylebook’. In here, I have pictures of every single item in my closet. Within the app, it has the brand and price of the item. Then, daily I log all of my outfits and the app calculates the cost per wear of each item. Over the past couple of years using this app, it has made me realise what I love and wear. Not to mention that within this app you can put in inspiration outfits and even look ahead and plan future looks. I know that most think this is a crazy thing to have, but it just helps me so much!

Divide up my closet.

When it gets to my actual clothes, I keep everything inside my large built in closet. To be honest, when we first moved into our home, we didn’t love the built in closet. If I had the option, I would do something completely new. However, it works for now, so I can live with it. The best thing is that there is just so much storage in there. So, I have floor to ceiling cupboards. Across the top I have shelves and under that I have two large metal rails. Every single item of my clothing, I can store in here. I am not going to lie, sometimes things do get a little tight, but I just have to work around it. Plus, a good clear out every now and again really helps to keep things fresh.

Have an order for storing my items.

Without my closet, after I have divided everything down by the category, I break it down further. This will vary depending on what category the clothes fall into. If it is a skirt, I will go by length. If it is trousers, I will go by fit. Tops will be filtered by sleeve length. Every separate item category has a feature that I can further drill it down by. This not only helps with the aesthetics of my closet because it is much neater. But it also helps me put my finger on items so much quicker. For example, if I want my denim mini skirt, I know within an instant which cupboard door to open up and look inside. It just takes all of the guesswork out of finding my clothes and I love it.

Always put away my clothes.

Something that I have certainly got better at over the years is actually putting my clothes away. I know that I will not be the only person guilty of this. Some days when I get in from work, I strip out of my clothes and just throw them on a chair. It makes me feel great in the moment when I can slip in my pyjamas. I always regret it though a couple of days later when my room likes like a pig sty. Not to mention that I try to find a specific and it is still on my junk pile. I am getting better though. My aim is that within a couple of months I will have kicked this habit!
