The older that I get, the more important I find a positive morning routine. If you start your day off on the right foot, then what should follow should be positive. Or at least that I like to believe. When I was younger and only just starting out at work, I used to roll out of bed in a morning and run for the bus. I had no routine; no clear plan and I didn’t set any good intention. It was chaotic from the get-go. I realised that something needed to change. In this post I am going to share with you the small steps that I take in my positive morning routine and how they help me. I find that all of these small things add up to be very significant in my mindset and outlook for the day.
Take my vitamins.
Each morning, I take my contraceptive pill. But alongside that, I also have a packed draw of vitamins and minerals that I should take. However as soon as my eyes open I am far too lazy to open 20 different bottles. That is where my pill box has come into play. Once per month, I fill up my pill box, so each morning all I have to do is pop the top and pour them all in. It is my first step in a morning to looking after my wellness.
Make my bed.
Like every teenager, there was definitely a period of my life where I didn’t make my bed. I would roll out of bed in the morning, rush around and then head on out. I would then get home after my shift, into a chaotic space and I would feel like my day was a mess. In the end, I realised that the small step of making my bed made the world of difference. A tidy space is a happy space. It is the smallest of accomplishments but helps my mind and OCD immeasurably.
Walk the dog.
My dog is an early riser, much like me. As soon as she hears my alarm going off, she races downstairs and grabs her harness and lead from the shelf. Getting out of the house, enjoying some fresh air and watching the sun rise in the summer months sets me up for the day. It helps me shake off the cobwebs before I jump into the rest of my positive morning routine. Plus, seeing my happy Golden Retriever sashaying warms my heart.
Exercise.
I am not going to lie; it took a long time for me to love exercising. Around 3 months of doing it every day before it became something that I craved to do. Now it is without a doubt part of my positive morning routine. It doesn’t always have to be a heavy workout. But a minimum of 30 minutes of moving in a morning helps me to feel so much more accomplished. It is something so wonderful to tick off each morning and gets me in a fantastic mindset.
Skincare routine.
Once I am finished with my exercise, I need to cleanse my skin. Normally for me that involved me heading into the bathroom, playing some music, steaming my pores and carrying out my normal skincare routine. I find that taking just a small amount of time to look after myself makes a world of difference. It is time set aside to do nothing but have a quick pamper and I adore every second of it.
Slowly get ready for work.
With how much I adore makeup, I love getting ready. I love to see my makeup come together and me going from a 2 to a 10. To me, there is something very therapeutic about seeing my makeup look come together and it is a nice way to ease into the day. Before, I used to do my makeup in the car or only give myself 10 minutes or so. But I felt like that rushed atmosphere just set me up for an entire day of the same vibe.
Neaten up the house.
Each evening before bed, I neaten up the house. I will adjust all the curtains, fluff the cushions, that kind of thing. But every now and again I may see things the following morning that I missed the evening before. I just have a small scout around the house, make sure that everything is in line so that when I get home in the evening I don’t have to begin tidying the house.
